What’s New

The 2009-2010 season saw Flowers in the Snow receive its third Washington performance by Cantate Chamber Singers, the organization who commissioned the large-scale choral work.  Acclaimed counter-tenor Roger Isaacs sang the feature solo which was written for him.

The Armour off Light (using original passages from Tyndale’s 1526 translation of the Bible) premiered on Advent Sunday at Saint Francis Church in Potomac, Maryland.  It was commissioned in celebration of the 20th anniversary (2008) of The Rev’d William M. Shand, III as Rector.

A private memorial commission was given its first performance by the Saint Alban’s Choir in Washington, DC under the direction of Sonya Sutton.  The setting for SATB and flute is on the Sarum Primer text, God be in my head.  The same choir sang the unaccompanied Banffshire Mass for Sunday mass at Salzburg’s cathedral while on tour in June.

June also saw the premiere of Glory to thee, my God, this night by the choir of girls and men at the Cathedral Church of Saint Andrew in Wells, UK.  The text by Thomas Ken, Bishop of Bath and Wells (1685-1690) was chosen for use at evensong on his feast day of June 8th.  The work was commissioned as part of the New Music Wells 70-10 festival and directed by Matthew Owens, Organist and Master of the Choristers.

Christ Church Cathedral in Nashville commissioned a new setting of the evening canticles, Magnificat and Nunc dimittis, in honor of The Rev’d Geoffrey Butcher on the occasion of his May retirement.  The setting will receive its premiere at the All Saints’ evensong on November 7th under the direction of cathedral Organist and Choirmaster, Michael Velting.
